Fall 2019 Tuition and Fees Information

The SIU Board of Trustees (BOT) approved most tuition and fee costs for the 2019-2020 school year at their February 2019 meeting.   A few others were approved at their May 2019 meeting.

What are the new Tuition Costs for Students for Fall 2019?

Incoming SIUC domestic undergraduate students who start Fall 2019 will pay an uncapped tuition rate of $321.25/hour.1  The state of Illinois and SIUC policies concerning guaranteed tuition mean that continuing or re-entering domestic undergraduates who started Fall 2018 will still pay $321.25/hour, while those who started Fall 2017 will still pay $315.00/hour, and those who started Fall 2016 will still pay $303.30/hour, all rates being uncapped.1  Those domestic undergraduates who started Fall 2015 will now pay $303.30/hour, while those who started Fall 2014 will still pay $294.50/hour, both of these rates being capped at 15 credit hours per semester.1

Most incoming, continuing, and re-entering graduate students will still pay $469.50/hour as Illinois residents, with those students who started Fall 2016 or later having their tuition uncapped.1  Also, Illinois resident students pursuing an MS degree in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPA) will continue to pay a capped graduate student tuition rate (still $469.50/hour) plus an uncapped MSPA tuition surcharge (now $430.50/hour).

JD students in the School of Law will see no increase in the resident tuition rate (from 2018-2019 rates).  MD students in the School of Medicine will see a resident tuition increase of 3%.

International undergraduate students – as well as non-resident (domestic and international) graduate students – will be subject to paying tuition rates that are 2.5 times those noted above.  The non-resident factor for JD students is 1.5 times and for MD students is 3.0 times.

What are the new Mandatory Fee Costs for Students for Fall 2019?

The General Student Fee for on-campus students will remain at $117.00/hour, while that for off-campus and online students will remain at $72.60/hour.2  Students will continue to be separately charged the Student Insurance Fee, which may be refundable.3  Undergraduate students will continue to be separately charged the $3.00 Student-to-Student Grant Fee, which is refundable.

Specific amounts related to tuition and fees for SIUC undergraduate and non-undergraduate students for Fall 2019 will be in the calculators on this web site in the future (once all fees are approved).  The first bill for Fall 2019 charges will be produced on Monday, July 15.

Information about other fees that do not necessarily apply to all students, or that apply only at certain points of the student's time at SIUC, is available here.

1 Most students enrolled in the College of Business will also pay a differential tuition surcharge of 15% on top of the noted tuition figure.

2 More information about the General Student Fee is here.

3 The amount of the Student Insurance Fee is based on actual market rate pricing by the vendor and is determined by plan enrollment, previous plan claims history, and medical inflation.  The actual amount of the Student Insurance Fee for Fall 2019 has just been approved by the BOT as $875 per semester.
