Fall 2020 Tuition and Fees Information

The SIU Board of Trustees (BOT) approved most tuition and fee costs for the 2020-2021 school year at their February 2020 meeting.  The cost of the Student Insurance Fee has not yet been brought before the BOT and approved, but will be reviewed and approved at a future meeting later in the Spring.1

It was the intention of the BOT to freeze tuition and fees across the SIU system as a means of keeping the cost of an SIU education affordable for students and their families.  Therefore, the base tuition rates for the 2020-2021 school year will remain at their 2019-2020 levels, as will the General Student Fees.

More specific information about Fall 2020 costs is in the process of being noted on this web page and eventually included in the Tuition and Fee Calculators on this web site.2

What are the new Tuition Costs for Students for Fall 2020?

The base tuition rate for incoming SIUC domestic undergraduate students who start Fall 2020 will be $321.25/hour.  State and campus policies concerning guaranteed tuition mean that the base tuition rate for continuing or re-entering domestic undergraduates who started Fall 2019 or Fall 2018 will be $321.25/hour, and for those who started Fall 2017 or Fall 2016 will be $315.00/hour.

The base tuition rate for graduate students will remain at $469.50/hour for Illinois residents.  Also, the additional tuition surcharge for Illinois resident students pursuing an MS degree in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPA) will remain at $430.50/hour.

The base tuition rate for JD students in the School of Law and for MD students in the School of Medicine will remain at their 2019-2020 rates.

What are the new Mandatory Fee Costs for Students for Fall 2020?

The General Student Fee for on-campus students will remain at $117.00/hour, while that for off-campus and online students will remain at $72.60/hour.  Effective Fall 2020, in a clarification of campus policy related to the General Student Fee, students who take both on-campus and off-campus/online courses in the same term will now pay the $117.00/hour on-campus rate for all of their course hours.

On-campus students will continue to be separately charged the Student Insurance Fee, which may be refundable.  All undergraduate students will continue to be separately charged the $3.00 Student-to-Student Grant Fee, which is refundable.

1 The amount of the Student Insurance Fee is based on actual market rate pricing by the vendor and is determined by plan enrollment, previous plan claims history, and medical inflation.

2 The calculators will be updated after all fees are approved.  The first bill for Fall 2020 charges will be produced by the Bursar on Wednesday, July 15.
