Fall 2021 Tuition and Fees Information

The SIU Board of Trustees (BOT) approved most tuition and fee rates for the 2021-2022 school year (effective Fall 2021) at their late April 2021 meeting.  The Student Insurance Fee was approved at an earlier meeting.1

To summarize, tuition and mandatory fee rates will not be increased for undergraduate and most graduate students for the next school year.

More specific information about Fall 2021 tuition and mandatory fee rates beyond those noted below will eventually be included in the Tuition and Fee Calculators on this web site.2

What are the Tuition Costs for Students for Fall 2021?

The base tuition rate3 for incoming SIUC domestic undergraduate students who start Fall 2021 will be $321.25/hour.  State and campus policies concerning undergraduate guaranteed tuition mean that the base tuition rate for continuing or re-entering domestic undergraduates who started Fall 2020 or Fall 2019 or Fall 2018 will all continue to be $321.25/hour.

The base tuition rate for graduate students will continue to be $469.50/hour for Illinois residents.  The additional tuition surcharge for Illinois resident students pursuing an MS degree in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPA) will be slightly increased to $439.00/hour.

The base tuition rates for JD students in the School of Law will remain at the 2020-2021 level.  The non-resident tuition multiplier for out-of-state JD students will be reduced to 1.0 times the resident rate, allowing all JD students to be assessed the same tuition rate.

The base tuition rates for MD students in the School of Medicine will increase by 2% over the 2020-2021 level.

What are the Mandatory Fee Costs for Students for Fall 2021?

The General Student Fee for on-campus students will remain at $117.00/hour, while that for off-campus and online students will remain at $72.60/hour.  Campus policy on the General Student Fee dictates that students who take both on-campus and off-campus/online courses in the same term will pay the $117.00/hour on-campus rate for all of their course hours.

On-campus students will continue to be separately charged the flat Student Insurance Fee, which may be refundable.1  All undergraduate students will continue to be separately charged the $3.00 flat Student-to-Student Grant Fee, which is refundable.

The Student Activity Fee paid by second-, third-, and fourth-year MD students in the School of Medicine will increase by $25.00 per semester (including the Summer session).

Effective Fall 2021, JD students in the School of Law will begin paying an Academic Support Fee of $499.00 each Fall and Spring semester to provide holistic bar exam preparatory materials and services.

What about other Costs for Fall 2021?

On-campus students living in University Housing will pay room and board charges as noted here.

Course-specific fees are noted by course in the online Schedule of Classes search results.4

1 The amount of the Student Insurance Fee is based on actual market rate pricing by the vendor and is determined by plan enrollment, previous plan claims history, and medical inflation.  The actual semester amount for the Student Insurance Fee for Fall 2021 as approved by the BOT is $1,043.00.

2 The calculators will be updated sometime this Summer.  The first bill for Fall 2021 charges is scheduled to be produced by the Bursar on July 15.

3 The base tuition rate shown is for students who are assessed resident (or resident-equivalent) tuition rates and who are not enrolled in a program that assesses a tuition surcharge (such as programs in the College of Business and Analytics).
